Memorable Moments for Jonny Gomes

  • 18 June 2013 - Jonny Gomes hits a walk-off, two run home run into the Monster Seats at Fenway Park for a 3-1 Red Sox victory over the Rays in the second game of a doubleheader. Gomes saves the day for reliever Andrew Bailey, who had served up a solo home run to Kelly Johnson in the top of the frame, and celebrates by punting his helmet football-style about halfway down the third base line as he comes home to greet his teammates.
  • 3 July 2013 - Pinch-hitter Jonny Gomes leads off the bottom of the ninth at Fenway Park with a home run into the Monster Seats to give the Red Sox a 2-1 win over the Padres. It is his second walk-off home run in the past three weeks.
  • 6 August 2013 - The Red Sox rally from a 7-3 deficit to win 15-10 over the Astros in Houston. Ryan Lavarnway ties a major league record by allowing four passed balls in the first inning while Jonny Gomes hits his fourth pinch-hit home run of the season in the sixth inning, one shy of Joe Cronin's record of five in 1943, and Jacoby Ellsbury becomes the third Red Sox center fielder to hit two home runs and score four runs in a game.
  • 13 October 2013 - Five outs from going down 0-2 in the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox rally to win 6-5 over the Tigers at Fenway Park in Game Two of the American League Championship Series. David Ortiz ties the game in the eighth with a grand slam into the Red Sox bullpen, then Jarrod Saltalamacchia wins it in the ninth with a walk-off single to plate Jonny Gomes.
  • 27 October 2013 - Thanks to Jonny Gomes three-run home run in the sixth, the Red Sox win 4-2 over the Cardinals in Game Four of the World Series at Busch Stadium to knot the series at two games. For the first time in postseason history, a World Series game ends on a pick-off as Koji Uehara nabs pinch-runner Kolten Wong leaning off first base in the bottom of the ninth.
  • 31 July 2014 - Well out of contention, the Red Sox trade away several pieces of last year's World Series championship team, including Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes to the Athletics, John Lackey to the Cardinals, Andrew Miller to the Orioles, and Stephen Drew to the Yankees. Drew's trade for utilityman Kelly Johnson marks the first trade between Boston and New York since 1997. Boston also receives two-time All-Star Home Run Derby winner Yoenis Cespedes from Oakland.
