- 15 December 2000 - The Red Sox sign free agent pitcher Hideo Nomo to a one-year deal. The 1995 National League Rookie of the Year throws Boston's first no-hitter since 1965 in his first start for the club and posts a 13-10 record with a 4.50 ERA in his one season with the Sox.
- 4 April 2001 - Hideo Nomo pitches a no-hitter in his first start with the Red Sox as Boston wins 2-0 over Baltimore at Camden Yards. It's Nomo's second career no-hitter and marks the first thrown by a Red Sox pitcher since Dave Morehead in 1965.
